IT AFFECTS CUM LAUDE, OPEN CAMPUS, ATHLETICS & MOST IMPORTANTLY - OUR STUDENTS’ SUCCESS!
Excused absences/tardies must not exceed a total of 10 occurrences per school year. Absences that have exceeded 10 will be marked as truant/unexcused regardless of a parent/guardian’s notification to the office. Absences that are accompanied by a medical excuse are the only exemptions. School sponsored field trips and events during the school day do not count towards this total. Families will receive the following attendance letters based on student absences/tardies:
5 Day Letter: 5 occurrences
10 Day Letter: 10 occurrences
Notice of Habitual Truancy: 14 occurrences
- Early Dismissals: If a parent has provided authorization and notification of their student’s need to be dismissed early then a parent/guardian does not need to enter the building for them. The student must stop in the main office and check out with our staff. Students will be dismissed from the main office entrance doors. Under no circumstances should they leave without checking out first and should not exit any door other than Door 1.
- Late Arrivals: When a student arrives tardy to school for whatever reason while school is already in session they must check in with the main office to receive a pass to class. A parent or guardian does need to enter, as they should have notified the school of their student’s absence prior to the occurrence.
Any student who arrives tardy to first period and brings in purchased food or beverages (e.g. McDonald’s, Starbucks) will need to dispose of them upon arrival.
- Medical Excuse: When a student has missed all or part of a school day due to an appointment or recommendation by a licensed provider upon the student’s return they should provide a written excuse signed by the licensed professional/designee. ***For ongoing medical conditions these excuses must not exceed a 30 day consecutive period of time. ***
- Extra-Curricular Activities: Students need to be here at least half of the school day to participate in any after-school/ extra-curricular activity occurring on the same day as the absence. One-half day means being in school attendance for three class periods. No student should participate if they are absent from school on that entire day, unless approved by the principal or Athletics/Activities Director.
